A Guilford native, Leigh attended Guilford High School, lived in New York City, Paris, France and Chicago before attending Mount Holyoke College where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College and went on to perform, choreograph and teach in the New York area. Leigh returned to Guilford and became a Realtor in 1988. She has earned the designations of Graduate Realtor Institute, Accredited Buyer Representative and became a Connecticut Real Estate Broker in 2002. Leigh is a Guild Member of The Institute of Luxury Home Marketing. The Whiteman Team was formed in 2003. Leigh has assisted well over 1000 families and individuals buy and sell homes and make prudent investments in real estate.
Leigh married her partner for life, Jef Ruchti in 1977. They have two children, a son, Graham and daughter-in-law Jenny, a daughter, Blake and a granddaughter, Kyla and grandson, Robin. Leigh loves to hike (especially on the Na Pali in Hawaii) and is an avid reader. Leigh has volunteered in the schools and on numerous community projects, including serving as the President of the Board of Directors for the Shoreline Arts Alliance and as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the VNA Community Health Care. She has served on numerous committees of the local Board of Realtors including serving as a member of the Board of Directors.
KIMBERLY STODDARD: Team Member, Administrative Manager, Realtor

Kim is a native of Guilford and graduated from Guilford High School. She attended Middlesex Community College and Branford Hall for Business.With a natural predisposition to organization and genuine interest in helping people, Kim has worked in a variety of disciplines: secretary for RFP Associates- a career consulting firm; bookkeeper for a charitable, non-profit woman’s organization and an international men’s barber chain; Senior Regional Program Manager for Clinical Mobility- a national mobile medical company.
Since 2006, Kim has been the Administrative Manager and more recently, a Realtor, Listing Coordinator and Closing Coordinator for The Whiteman Team.
Kim lives with her Domestic Partner Kevin Minckler. She has six children, a daughter and son-in-law, Stephannie and Chuck and Grandson Chase, a son and daughter-in-law Mark and Alexandra and Granddaughters Victoria and Lilith, a daughter and son-in-law Morgan and Corey, a son Joshua and his partner Ian, a son Jason and Grandson Elijah, and a son Sam.
KELLY WHITEMAN: Team Member, Realtor
Kelly Whiteman has been a Connecticut resident since 2012. She is originally from Oneonta, New York. She spent a semester in Perth, Australia and studied the coral reefs in San Salvador for two weeks before graduating with a Biology Degree from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York.
She was a familiar face at KC’s Restaurant & Pub, a family-owned restaurant in Guilford, from 2012 to 2019. She most recently held the General Manager position at KC’s, as well as tending bar and waitressing, which allowed her a greater opportunity to interact with and form closer relationships with her customers.
When she was younger, Kelly began to express a special interest in houses, drawing floor plans in her spare time and making sure she got the grand tour whenever she visited a new home. At the start of 2018 she made the decision to pursue her real estate license, and within 10 short weeks she had completed and passed the Principles and Practice course and the state test. To gain a higher understanding of her new career, she interned with Leigh Whiteman for three months, which allowed her to take off running.
Over the past few years, Kelly has successfully helped many Buyers, Sellers, Landlords, and Renters with all of their real estate needs. Kelly was excited to find that her career in real estate allows her to share her love of houses with others, while helping them to find their dream home. She especially enjoys helping new homebuyers find their first home and making the selling process easier for those selling their parents’ home, especially if they aren’t local.
Kelly enjoys making greeting cards, playing board games, solving Escape Rooms, or throwing a Frisbee with her dog, Daisy. She currently lives in Branford with her husband Nolan, Daisy, and 2 cats, Iris and Velcro.
JENNA MESSIER: Team Member, Realtor
Jenna Messier is a Connecticut native, having grown up in both Bethel and New Milford, until leaving for The Ohio State University where she studied Agriculture. After college, she spent the following 10 years living on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts where she worked on vegetable farms and landscaping beautiful properties.
In 2005, Jenna switched gears and began working for non-profit organizations in the Greater New York City area, before returning to Connecticut and working for the Northeast Organic Farming Association. As the Director of the Organic Land Care Program, Jenna led professional trainings across the northeast and implemented grant projects to educate the public about how to care for their lawns and gardens organically and sustainably.
In 2015, Jenna received the Executive Master’s in Business Administration degree from the University of New Haven. She started a business, Homes to Grow, LLC, which renovates older homes and provides urban apartment dwellers with access to raised-bed vegetable garden space. This desire to improve aging neighborhoods, to increase urban green space, to provide affordable and healthy living spaces, and to create cash-flowing properties concurrently launched Jenna into a career in real estate sales in 2018. Jenna enjoys helping her clients find the right home to fit their current lifestyle and goals, which is so unique to each buyer and their family. When it is time to sell a property, she will advise her clients on how best to prepare the property to attract many buyers.
Jenna aspires to become a real estate developer, catering to the housing needs of the 21st century: increase the affordability, sustainability, and accessibility of housing to more people. Let’s keep the American Dream alive – homeownership can still be a vehicle to generational wealth!
